Hands down, the No. 1 New Year’s resolution is losing weight. But what about losing weight in your carbon footprint? For 2012, Outdoor Architecture is asking you to think green. Here are five ways you can start living organically.
1. Plant a Tree!
The science has long confirmed it. Due to human activity, carbon dioxide is rapidly filling the atmosphere and creating a greenhouse-like effect. We can help you choose the right tree for your yard and we can help plant it.
2. Organize your recycling.
Unfortunately, there are still some parts of Beaufort County that do not partake in curbside recycling. Make it easier for yourself and for the recycling center by sorting your recyclable goods.
3. Shop local.
Hit up local farmer’s markets for fresh, locally grown produce. Not only do you save on transporting produce, you also are eating healthier, yummier fruits and vegetables. And let’s face it. Lowcountry farmer’s markets are fun. Many offer live music and taste testing. For more information on farmer’s markets near you, click here.
4. Walk.
Instead of hopping in your car and driving a few minutes, use your own two legs to get you where you need to go. In Beaufort, it’s fun to stroll downtown to peruse the local shops for gifts for loved ones. Also in walking distance to downtown, is a new organic store, Herban Marketplace, where you can find organic … everything, from local produce and canned goods to bathroom necessities and treats for your pets.
5. Start a garden.
If you’re adventurous, plot out a section of your landscape and consider starting a vegetable garden. Or if you are a dabbler, start a container herb garden that will fill your home with the fragrances of fresh rosemary, thyme, oregano, cilantro … We are happy to help!
